The school has a very impressive record in National Championships over the past 20 years. In Engineering  students from the school have achieved the highest accolade  which is the gold medal presented by the Engineering and Technology Teachers association on no less than five occasions.  Students have also scored the highest marks in the country in Technical Drawing.

Recently, 17 students from all years and 5 teachers departed from Muine Bheag Vocational School on an exciting, fun and historically enriching school tour to Rome.

The group smoothly passed through airport security and were in the air before they even knew it. They arrived into Rome just after midday on Tuesday and were greeted by 17 degree heat and clear blue skies. First on the agenda was to buy sun cream and a pair of sunglasses (from the cheap markets of course)!!

One Book One Community 2017 Launch
18/01/2017 16:14 | SchoolWise Administrator

Last Thursday, January 12th, Muine Bheag Vocational School officially launched the beginning of their 2017 ‘One Book One Community’ reading festival. This festival aims to encourage all members of the community- both young and old- to read the same book. Events will be organised in which community members will get to meet up and talk about their opinions and views throughout this reading journey.

The chosen book- “Spirit of the Titanic” by Drogheda based author, Nicola Pierce- follows the story of the ghost of a young boy, who died in the building of the Titanic, as he journeys off on the magnificent ship’s first and final voyage.

The festival kicked off with a bang last Thursday evening when author, Nicola Pierce, made a very special appearance at our launch. It was a fantastic night filled with musical performances by both students and St. Andrew’s male choir, and an extremely interesting presentation on Titanic by Nicola Pierce. Refreshments were served after the launch, while Nicola Pierce stuck around to answer questions and sign copies of her book.

Furthermore, Nicola Pierce returned to the school on Friday morning, where she continued to amaze students and community members with stories and interesting facts on the building of Titanic, and inside stories on survivors and victims of Titanic. Both students and staff stood in amazement, making a mental note of all these facts, hoping to impress family members at future events.

Nicola Pierce herself was so natural and enthusiastic that one could not help but become immersed in the magical world of Titanic. The presentation was almost like stepping back in time over 100 years, and experiencing life in both first and third class, and everything in between.

Please join us while we venture forth in our exciting reading adventure over the next few weeks. To find out about upcoming events, such as coffee mornings and table quizzes, please feel free to visit our ‘One Book One Community’ facebook page, where we will post regular updates.

The local primary schools that are taking part are; Queen of the Universe N.S., St. Brigid’s Boys N.S., St. Mary’s Dunleckney N.S., Newton/ Dunleckney N.S., Balinnkillen N.S., Nurney N.S. and Scoil Molaise Old Leighlin N.S. All students taking part are really enjoying the book so far.
