Local Firms Get Behind School

By SchoolWise Administrator on 07/03/2017
Muine Bheag Vocational School’s engineering accomplishments of the past few years were highlighted recently at a presentation given by the Acting Principal Jimmy Dermody. The school has a very impressive record in National Championships over the past 20 years. In Engineering  students from the school have achieved the highest accolade  which is the gold medal presented by the Engineering and Technology Teachers association on no less than five occasions.  Students have also scored the highest marks in the country in Technical Drawing.

To encourage the high level of engineering excellence required to support their own businesses in the future, the companies present kindly agreed to provide a bursary for Leaving Certificate students who choose to follow the engineering or electrical path be that at 3rd level or apprenticeship.

When in Roma

By SchoolWise Administrator on 07/03/2017

Recently, 17 students from all years and 5 teachers departed from Muine Bheag Vocational School on an exciting, fun and historically enriching school tour to Rome.

The group smoothly passed through airport security and were in the air before they even knew it. They arrived into Rome just after midday on Tuesday and were greeted by 17 degree heat and clear blue skies. First on the agenda was to buy sun cream and a pair of sunglasses (from the cheap markets of course)!!

MVS Basketball Season Update

By SchoolWise Administrator on 17/11/2016

Muine Bheag’s Vocational School’s basketball teams are having a very successful season. Our U16 boys took on Carlow VS this week playing a very competitive game and eventually on the final whistle were victorious - this joins wins over Colaiste Abbain and Moin Coin.  They will play a match against Tullow Community School next week and the winners will go into the semi-final of the league.

Our U16 girls have reached the semi-final of their league having wins over Colaiste Abbain and Colaiste Bride and losing to Kennedy College by one basket they will now play Scoil Ruan in next week’s semi-final.

Our U19 Boys won their league section with wins over CBS New Ross,  Moin Coin and Colaiste Abbain they are awaiting the semi-final draw. Good luck and best wishes to all teams

Our U19 girls played a friendly match against CBS New Ross and they were joined by a number of our younger players from the U16 squad.  They played a tightly contested game and in the last quarter stretched the lead to win - well done to all.

Student Enterprise Programme

By SchoolWise Administrator on 17/11/2016

Transition Year students recently took part in a workshop with Carlow Enterprise Board as part of the students enterprise programme. The mini companies are now at the production and sales stage with strong sales recorded to date. The competition compliments the schools business studies curriculum and is a rewarding experience for our transition year students, who have that bit more freedom to develop their business concepts to the fullest.

The Student Enterprise Programme is the biggest enterprise competition for students in Ireland. It helps our students to grasp real life skills associated with running a real enterprise including working as part of a team, managing production and finances, organising a sales and marketing campaign and liaising directly with customers, judges and the media.

Muine Bheag Vocational School has, for many years, promoted enterprise to students in such a relevant fashion in order to help to create more local entrepreneurs in the future.
